Terra top-surface CO2 saturation during the injection phase.
Johansen CO2 results through 25 years
These preliminary figures come from Terra model and result data. The latest published field is stored at 25.00694 years. The 37.5-year and 50-year continuation outputs are still running on the University of Luxembourg HPC system.
Available now, with the limits stated plainly
The four images below are bound to the checked Terra-only manifest. They support inspection of the model input and plume evolution through approximately 25 years. They do not authorize an exact pairwise validation claim.
Terra top-surface and exterior-boundary saturation near the nominal shutoff.

A heterogeneous three-dimensional saline formation
The Johansen subset spans roughly 9.6 km by 8.9 km and is about 90-140 m thick. Terra represents the formation with 61,083 volume nodes and 320,943 conforming tetrahedra.
Physics and assumptions
- Two-phase brine and supercritical CO2 flow with gravity.
- No dissolved CO2 in the brine.
- A prescribed geothermal temperature profile.
- Spatially varying porosity and intrinsic permeability.
- Brooks-Corey capillary pressure with phase relative permeability.
| Condition | Applied value | Physical role |
|---|---|---|
| Initial brine state | Hydraulic head H = 0 m | Hydrostatic pressure with depth |
| Initial free CO2 | Saturation = 0 | Brine-filled formation before injection |
| Open side boundaries | H = 0 m; CO2 saturation = 0 | Far-field hydrostatic state |
| Sealed faces | No phase flow | Top, base and sealed lateral faces |
| Well source | 15 kg/s plateau; smoothed start and shutoff | CO2 injection through the nominal 25-year phase |
Published fields through 25.00694 years
All four image sets were generated from Terra data and checked against the interim manifest before the opt-in website build.

The preliminary Terra fields show a buoyant, laterally spreading plume shaped by heterogeneous rock properties.
The 12.5-year field captures growth during injection. The near-25-year views show the broader footprint around the nominal shutoff interval.
The later redistribution cannot be interpreted from these images. That conclusion waits for the validated 37.5-year and 50-year continuation outputs.
Each published image is hash-bound
The interim build checks the source manifest, the Terra project hash, the four image hashes, byte counts and decoded dimensions. Any mismatch stops the build.
